SALIMIA YEYE (SAY HELLO TO THEM): Balancing Rights to Privacy vs Public Interest

Recently, Kenya has seen a significant shift in its political landscape, driven by the youth-led Gen-Z movement. This movement is unique, comprising young individuals with no central leader or political or ethnic ties. Their resilience has even led to Kenya being recognized as ‘the giant of Africa.’

The inception of this transformative movement stemmed from the contentious Finance Bill 2024, backed by the ruling United Democratic Alliance (UDA). The proposal sparked widespread outrage as the political elite were perceived to be living lavishly at the expense of ordinary citizens. The dissent towards the Finance Bill 2024 was voiced on various digital platforms, including Facebook, Instagram, and X (formerly Twitter).
